Keyboards and Dishwashers
Some time ago I read an interesting article. It explained how to clean out a filthy keyboard by using the dishwasher without ruining it…
So I figured… why not! Let’s try that. Here’s how it is done.
What you need is:
- A filthy keyboard
- A screwdriver
- A dishwasher
- Some confidence
I will assume that you are using a normal, very average keyboard. Something like this:
Step 1: Flip over the keyboard a take a look at the back. You will notice several screws which hold the top and the bottom of the keyboard together.
Take your screwdriver and unscrew them. Put the screws some place you won’t forget ;-).
Step 2: Open up the keyboard. You’ll see a rubbery membrane and a silicon plate. This contains the LEDs of your keyboard. Unscrew it. Take it out of the keyboard. Same for the membrane (although is normally isn’t attached).
Step 3: Your keyboard is now empty and doesn’t contain any electronic devices anymore. Carefully pick it up and put it in the dishwasher. Manually clean the membrane.
Step 4: Once the keyboard is dry (and this is very important). Redo these steps in a reversed order.
As good as new and lemon fresh!
